Directed and elliptic flow in 197Au+197Au at intermediate energies

Directed and elliptic flow for the ¹⁹⁷Au+¹⁹⁷Au system at incident energies between 40 and 150 MeV per nucleon has been measured using the INDRA 4π multi-detector. For semi-central collisions, the excitation function of elliptic flow shows a transition from in-plane to out-of-plane emission at around 100 MeV per nucleon. The directed flow changes sign at a bombarding energy between 50 and 60 MeV per nucleon and remains negative at lower energies. Molecular dynamics calculations (CHIMERA) indicate sensitivity of the global squeeze-out transition on the σ _NN and demonstrate the importance of angular momentum conservation in transport codes at low energies.     

Synthesis of cyclic mono- and bis-disulfides and their selective conversion to mono- and bis-thiosulfinates

Twelve-membered ring pseudopeptidic cyclic disulfides have been prepared by iodine oxidation of the parent dithiols. However, oxidation of N,N′-(1,2-phenylene)bis(2-mercapto-2-methylpropanamide) afforded a 25/75 mixture of cyclic mono- and bis-disulfides that were separated by selective precipitation in CHCl₃. The cyclic bis-disulfide was selectively prepared by iodine oxidation of the Ni complex of this dithiol and crystallized. Its crystal structure was solved by X-ray diffraction. All these cyclic mono- or bis-disulfides were selectively converted to cyclic mono- and bis-thiosulfinates upon stoichiometric oxidation with dimethyldioxirane at low temperature. ¹H NMR of the cyclic bis-thiosulfinate revealed the presence of four isomers, two couples of stereoisomers, as expected from the insertion of two oxygen atoms in this compound, one on each disulfide bond. The two couples of cis/trans isomers were separated by preparative TLC and identified after alkaline cleavage of the two S(O)-S bonds and metalation with Ni(II). As HO⁻ attack is selective for the sulfinyl sulfur, the nature of the Ni complexes obtained is a signature of each couple of stereoisomers.     

The LPCTrap experiment: measurement of the β–ν angular correlation in 6He using a transparent Paul trap

We report on the status of the LPCTrap experiment, devoted to measure the β–ν angular correlation in the pure Gamow–Teller decay of ⁶He. This measurement is motivated by the search for the presence of tensor type contributions to the weak interaction. The ⁶He ions are confined in a novel transparent Paul trap. The β particles and the recoil ions are detected in coincidence to deduce the angular correlation parameter. The commissioning run performed in 2005 has given the proof of principle of this experiment. Up to 10⁵ coincidences were recorded during a second run in 2006.     

Stable products of spheres in the non-linear coupling of oscillators or quasi-periodic motions

A Multidimensional Branch-and-Prune Method for Interval Global Optimization

In this paper a new multidimensional extension of the recently developed one-dimensional enclosure method called kite is given for interval global optimization. A more sophisticated version of the pruning technique based on the kite method is introduced. By the new componentwise approach all the one-dimensional theoretical results and procedures can be used in the higher-dimensional case. The possibilities in the implementation of the new algorithm together with numerical results on 40 standard test problems are presented.     

Trois formulations d'un modèle de plasma quasi-neutre avec courant non nul

In this Note, we propose three formulations of a model describing a quasi-neutral plasma with non-vanishing current. In order to study and compare the numerical efficiency of each formulation, two test-problems are implemented in one dimension. The first is a periodic perturbation of a uniform stationary plasma. Weak density of smooth maps for the Dirichlet energy between manifolds

We prove that given a simply connected compact manifold M and a closed manifold N, any map in the Sobolev space W ^1,2(M,N) can be approximated weakly by smooth maps between M and N. Submitted: September 2002, Final version: November 2002.
